Managing risk, building confidence and life skills

Learning to manage risk

Rock climbing is one of the fastest growing adventure sports, and it’s popularity is not surprising especially when we’re surrounded by so many beautiful crags in the Yorkshire and Lancashire regions. There are a couple of ways to learn climbing, the most popular being the indoor climbing centre, which offer great facilities, but why not outside?

We believe there is a great deal to offer young people learning their rock climbing skills outdoors, and we work hard to ensure these skills are very much transferable to an indoor environment as well. Due to the added risk and exposure of the great outdoors, we embed safe practice and skills, and plenty of opportunities to practice this new sport. We use Ilkley Cow & Calf and Brimham Rocks as iconic settings to inspire their climbing further and are great venues to develop many skills, including technique, managing risk, confidence and more.

Core skills

  • Climbing

What do we need to bring?

    • Appropriate outdoor clothing – we ask you to bring waterproofs, and muddy boots in all weathers, as we often use water play in our sessions. In hot weather please bring sun cream and hats. The woodlands have plenty of plants which may sting or scratch – please consider this when dressing your child for the day.
    • Hand sanitiser – to minimise the spread of Covid-19 we ask that you bring hand sanitiser to use before and after the session.
